The University of Twente offers student housing for international students through their International Office, which use the housing company acasa.nl. All applicants are guaranteed to get an offer for housing from Twente's International Office as long as they make sure both their admission procedure for their study programme and their online application for housing are completed at least three months before they are due to arrive. Therefore you should make sure to get your applications finished as soon as you can!
You can find information on the types of housing that the University of Twente can offer you on the Twente acommodation page. The prices vary from €230-600, obviously depending on location and quality of accommodation, with the average price being around €350.
If you are a Bachelor's student, you have to contact the International Office directly in order to be able to apply for housing.
If you are a Master's or exchange student, then you can apply for housing by filling in the relevant online application form. You will receive a link from the Admission/International Office once your application form for study has been properly filled in and submitted to the university.
Priority for the allocation of housing for international students is given in the following way, from highest to lowest:
1. Exchange students
2. International Master students with a UTS or HSP
3. International Master students
4. International Bachelor students
5. International PhD students, employees, trainees, and other international guests
If your application for housing has been successful, you will receive an offer by email about one month before you are due to arrive. From this point, you only have one week to confirm your response. If you wait too long you will lose your place, and if you decline the offer you will be put to the back of the waiting list.
Your first rent payment will be quite large, as it includes the rent for the first month itself, your deposit, a one time fee for cleaning costs as well as an administration fee of arond €20. This bill needs to be paid within the first ten days of your contract. From then on, you pay rent monthly, which is taken from your account on the last day of the previous month. You can pay by automatic bank transfer or at Acasa's front desk using your credit card or Dutch bank card.
More housing information, including further details on how to apply, the housing procedures, types of accommodation, and other options can be found on the University of Twente's 'Housing' page.
