Maastricht University offers student housing through maastrichthousing.com. It is operated by the three main student housing organisations in Maastricht: Guesthouse UM, Kamerburo.net and the Foundation for Student Housing in Maastricht (Stichting Studentenhuisvesting Maastricht). Each company provides a certain kind of housing to Maastricht University and two other local educational institutes.
Guesthouse UM offers around 900 furnished rooms to short stay international students who are in Maastricht on exchange, or taking their Bachelor's and Master's degrees. Kamerburo offers unfurnished rooms intended for stays of more than a year, while three other official housing corporations in Maastricht: Maasvallei, Woonpunt and Servatius provide around 3000 unfurnished rooms. There is also the private market, where there is a supply of around 10,000, mainly unfurnished, rooms. It is very common for accommodation to share facilities like the kitchen and bathroom. If you wish, you may be able to opt for a studio or student apartment which offers complete privacy.
To use maastrichthousing.com, you have to register on the site. There is a one-time fee of €35 to register. You will then be able to apply for the accommodation listings. It is well advised to start your search ahead of schedule, as complications and difficulties are common, and it will only get harder and harder to find a place to live the closer you get to the start of your course.
Guesthouse UM reserves around 275 furnished rooms specifically for international students (applicable unless you are from the Netherlands, Belgium, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Bremen or Niedersachsen). The lease is for 11 months if you start in September, and 6 or 11 months if you start in February. In order to apply for this kind of housing, you need to subscribe to maastrichthousing.com and select both the university managed and furnished options in your profile settings. This will mean you only see rooms offered by Guesthouse.
Again, it is important not to procrastinate with finding a room, as this is such an important issue to have resolved before you arrive.
